"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" - W&LT Summer 1994

His first collection for W&LT, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is a hazy cross cultural exploration of Van Beirendoncks experiences and inspirations that led him to creating the label. The collection flows from Hindu inspired prints and flowing harem pants, to neon tribal body paint that evokes the sense of taking part in an Mayan fertility cult ritual if it were taking place in an abandoned mini put golf course in the suburbs of Berlin.

The music changes to suit the respective culture, beginning in a wash of traditional indian music with a classic dub break, quickly transitioning to a deep, chugging bass, followed by a laid back electro groove overlayed with commentary from a football game. There is an essence of childhood playfulness and disorder throughout each of what can be described as aesthetic movements, with literal kids and even a dog walking the runway. As a first collection, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" manages to perfectly exemplify Walter Van Beirendoncks mastery of interpolating his inspirations into an aesthetic experience that can only really be described as a fever dream.
